Congee with Chen Pi & Goji Berries
Traditional Chinese Medicine Perspective
In TCM, this warm and comforting congee is ideal for times when the body feels depleted, digestion is sluggish or energy is low. Chicken bone broth nourishes Qi, Blood and Essence to strengthen from within, while sticky rice gently supports the Spleen and provides grounding, easy-to-digest energy. Chen Pi helps move stuck Qi, easing bloating and promoting smoother digestion, especially when stress or rich foods create heaviness. Goji berries and black sesame seeds nourish Liver and Kidney Yin, supporting vitality, mood, skin and vision. A hard-boiled egg adds Blood and Essence-building nourishment, bringing substance and stability to the bowl.
Together, these ingredients offer warmth, clarity and deep nourishment — a simple way to restore balance and reconnect with the body’s natural rhythms.
You’ll Need
1 cup dry sticky rice
1 tbsp Chen Pi (dried citrus peel) chopped
1 tbsp goji berries (soaked in warm water for 5 mins)
1 tbsp black sesame seeds
1 hard boiled egg peeled and sliced
Instructions
In a saucepan, combine sticky rice, bone broth and Chen Pi and bring to a gentle simmer.
Cook on low heat for 15 minutes with the lid on.
