Moxibustion
What is Moxibustion?
Moxibustion is a traditional East Asian therapeutic technique that uses the gentle heat of burning moxa—typically prepared from the herb Artemisia argyi (mugwort)—to regulate the body’s Qi and support overall wellness. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), moxibustion is used to warm the meridians, disperse cold, nourish Yang and stimulate the smooth flow of Qi and Blood.
At NRQi Studio, Nickila applies moxibustion using safe, clinically grounded methods to restore balance, ease pain and enhance your body’s natural healing capacity.
The benefits of Moxibustion;
Moxibustion offers a wide range of therapeutic benefits and is commonly used for conditions linked to cold, stagnation or Yang deficiency in TCM. Many patients find moxibustion effective for:
Warming the body and dispelling internal cold
Supporting digestion and improving Spleen and Stomach function
Reducing pain in the back, shoulders, joints and limbs
Enhancing circulation and promoting the smooth movement of Qi
Boosting immune function and strengthening overall vitality
Supporting women’s health, including menstrual irregularities and peri-menopausal symptoms
Reducing fatigue, low mood and feelings of coldness in the body
Complementing acupuncture for deeper therapeutic effect
Depending on your TCM pattern, moxibustion may be used as a primary therapy or combined with acupuncture or cupping to achieve optimal results. During your consultation, Nickila will determine the most suitable approach for your individual needs.
What will I feel during a Moxibustion treatment?
A moxibustion session at NRQi Studio is designed to be relaxing, grounding and deeply warming. Most people describe the experience as comforting and soothing.
You may feel:
A gentle, penetrating warmth that spreads across the treatment area
A pleasant sensation of heat moving along the meridian pathways
Gradual relaxation of muscles and release of tension
A sense of calm, heaviness or peacefulness in the body
Moxibustion should never feel uncomfortably hot or painful. Throughout the treatment, Nickila will closely monitor the temperature and adjust the technique to ensure your comfort and safety. Depending on the method used, you may also notice a mild herbal aroma, which many patients find grounding and pleasant.
